Job summary

Premier Health Partners’ Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton seeks a Patient Care Tech to join the Heart and Vascular SE6 team. The PCT works under a nurse supervision, performing safe, patient-facing tasks and supporting daily care.

Responsibilities include measuring vital signs, assisting with mobility and ADLs, collecting samples, and communicating changes to the nurse. Prior CNA/STNA training or current nursing coursework is preferred; BLS CPR certification required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Need BLS CPR certificate; orientation can teach CPR at orientation.
• One of the following experiences: STNA/CNA training or PCT/Assistant training; direct patient care in last five years; or nursing student with at least one clinical rotation.

Responsibilities

• Check vital signs (temperature, heart rate, respiration).
• Assist patients with mobility, dressing, and eating.
• Collect samples like urine.
• Report changes in a patient’s condition to a nurse.
• Perform walks, ADLs, and weigh patients; monitor vitals.

Shift: 7:00 am-7:30 pm Full Time 36 hours a week, 72 hours per pay period

Facility: Miami Valley Hospital

They collaborate with nurses and doctors to provide personalized care for patients. They can:

• Check vital signs, including temperature, heart rate, and breathing rate.
• Assist patients with mobility, dressing, and eating.
• Collect samples like urine.
• Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.

Position

Patient Care Tech

The PCT works under the supervision of a nurse, who ensures they are performing tasks safely and correctly. Sometimes, the PCT may also be referred to as a Patient Care Technician/Unit Clerk (PCT/HUC). Like HUC, they assist with the paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly, which also helps patients receive the best care possible.

So, even though PCTs don't wear capes, they are essential members of the healthcare team who help patients feel better and recover their health.

Qualifications

Education

You need a high school diploma or GED.

Training

You need to get a BLS CPR certificate. If you don't already have it, they can teach you how to do CPR at your orientation, too (so you don't need to do it beforehand).

Experience

Successful completion of one of the following:

• Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
• Direct patient care experience within the last five years: Performing fundamental skills of vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) & direct patient care activities ie. Bathing, turning/positioning, toileting
• Currently enrolled in nursing school and have completed at least one clinical rotation.

*Special Consideration: If the candidate has previous direct patient care experience, they may be excused from fundamental training (BCOP) upon completion of successful skills validation. This is in lieu of the above requirements. *
