Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support Registered Nurse duties in the 13 West Tower - Ortho/Neuro, Spine & Head/Neck. The role emphasizes teamwork, patient safety, and compassionate care across age groups.

You will assist with direct patient care, document in EPIC, maintain a safe environment, and help with admissions, transports, and routine procedures. Day shifts, 12-hour shifts, 0.9 FTE (36 hours) per week.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Maintain current BLS certification.
• Prior formal clinical training (CMA, CNA, PCT, EMT, corpsman, paramedic, nursing or medical student).
• Successful completion of the institutional screening examination.
• Ability to solve simple problems.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Prior clinical experience in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

• Assists the RN in the delivery of patient care.
• Maintains a safe patient environment and sets priorities as directed by the RN.
• Under RN direction, participates in individualized plans of care.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living.
• Documents care accurately in the patient record and uses EPIC.
• Transports patients and items as needed.
• Assists with admission, discharge and transport of patients.
• Operates unit monitors and routine equipment safely.
