Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Medicine Specialty Unit (6RC) to assist nursing staff with patient care under RN supervision. The role emphasizes vital signs, hygiene, mobility, and daily tasks in a fast-paced medical unit on the University Campus in Iowa City.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, specimen collection, bedside care, admissions/discharges, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Carries out medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks including phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, and Foley catheter removal and cares for patients who are medically isolated.
• Performs simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative skin prep, dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etc.
• Assists with patient admission, transfers, and discharges.
• Directly provides for patients' personal hygiene and comfort.
