Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is seeking a Patient Care Technician I to provide direct patient care, monitor vital signs, assist with daily living activities, and support RNs in procedures.

This non-exempt, 32-hour weekly position operates day shifts, requiring BLS, high school diploma, 800 hours PCT experience or equivalent, and strong communication skills to ensure patient safety and comfort.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
• Demonstrated competency in Patient Care Technician I level: 800 hours and 6 months of PCT I experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Medical terminology knowledge.
• Computer skills required.
• Strong interpersonal skills for information gathering and patient care.
• Must possess problem-solving abilities and stay calm under stress.
• Willingness to follow safety protocols and assist in routine hospital procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN about observations and changes in patients.
• Maintains constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assists patients with daily living activities.
• Assists with moving, lifting, positioning, and transport of patients using proper safety techniques.
• Performs vital signs and records data.
• Performs EKGs and Point of Care tests as required.
• Performs other unit procedures and assists in treatments.
• Precepts new Patient Care Technicians as needed.
