Job summary

Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD seeks a qualified nursing assistant to provide routine patient care on 7:00am–5:30pm and 5:30pm–4:00am shifts. The position includes weekend and holiday duties, with a 48-hour/2-week schedule.

You will support patient care and coordinate with the nursing team to ensure quality care. The role requires a CNA certification or willingness to obtain, with emphasis on communication, teamwork, and patient safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• CNA certification preferred.
• Good communication skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Provides safe and direct patient care: ambulating, bathing, positioning, feeding and attending to other care needs.
• Greets visitors, answers inquiries, assists with messages and gifts for patients and runs errands for department staff.
• Ambulates patients and assists in/out of wheelchairs, measures intakes/outputs, may collect specimens and transport patients as needed.
• Answers telephone, operates paging system, and assists during emergencies.
• Prepares requisitions for diagnostic and therapeutic services and coordinates appointments.
• Maintains orderly patient rooms, changes bed linens, and performs routine cleaning tasks.
• Requests services such as chaplain, social services, and pastoral care.
