Patient Care Technician (PCT)

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a vital, hands-on member of the nursing team who supports Registered Nurses (RNs) and assists patients with daily living activities, monitoring, and safety.

Job Summary

As Patient Care Technician, you work under the supervision of RNs to provide direct, patient-centered care, maintain a clean and safe environment, and serve as an important line of communication between patients, families, and the medical team.

Core Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care: Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, personal hygiene, feeding, and dressing.
• Mobility & Comfort: Help patients with turning, positioning, transfers, and ambulation.
• Vital Signs & Monitoring: Take and record vital signs, monitor patient conditions, and collect specimens or perform delegated tasks like EKGs and blood sugar checks depending on unit guidelines.
• Environment & Supply Management: Keep patient rooms and common areas clean, organized, and properly stocked while following infection control protocols.
• Team Communication: Report changes in patient status promptly to the RN and interact compassionately with patients and families.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) certification (often required within 30 days of hire).
• Preferences: A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license or prior healthcare/EMT experience is preferred.
