Job summary

Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover, DE is seeking a Registered Nurse for the 3 North Med Surg/Telemetry unit. The RN will provide direct patient care, develop care plans, administer medications, and educate patients and families in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• RN license is required and active in good standing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; ACLS/PALS may be required per manager’s direction.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, professional nursing care in the Med/Surg telemetry unit.
• Develop and implement patient-centered care plans.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and accurate documentation of care.
• Counsel and educate patients and families on treatment plans.
• Administer medications following the five rights of medication administration.
• Perform wound care and dressing changes as applicable.
• Collaborate with physicians to determine best treatment decisions.
• Delegate tasks to unlicensed staff as appropriate.
• Uphold quality and safety standards in all patient interactions.
• Document care timely and accurately; participate in performance improvement.
• Contribute to a positive, compassionate, and collaborative environment.
• Engage in RN residency and shared governance activities.
• Support ethical decision-making and patient advocacy.
• Assist with admissions, discharges, and transitions of care.

General Summary:

3 North is a 14 bed Med Surg / Telemetry unit located at our Bayhealth Kent Campus in Dover. This unit has amazing teamwork and participates in our Nurse Residency Program, and Shared Governance.

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within a assigned unit with a commitment to quality and safety. Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge judgment and skill are performed using the process in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and nursing philosophy.

Responsibilities:

• 1. Provide direct, professional nursing care to specified population of patients in the acute care setting.
• 2. Develops a patient centered plan of care based on individualized needs.
• 3. Maintains confidentiality of the patient medical record.
• 4. Counsel and educate patients and their care partner on treatment plans.
• 5. Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration.
• 6. Provide wound care and dressing changes, as applicable.
• 7. Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions, when appropriate.
• 8. Consult with physicians to decide on best treatment decisions when appropriate
• 9. Performs nursing interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• 10. Observe and record patient behavior and response to nursing interventions.
• 11. Demonstrates quality, safe and effective patient care.
• 12. Provides delegation to unlicensed assistive staff and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) staff
• 13. Demonstrates standards of excellence which includes practicing nursing with core values of compassion, accountability, respect, teamwork and integrity.
• 14. Demonstrates understanding and executes quality and performance improvement plans. (only for RN evaluation)
• 15. Participates in decision making and takes actions based on ethical principles. (only for RN evaluation)
• 16. Provides timely and accurate documentation of patient care.
• 17. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
