Job summary

Bayhealth Medical Center is seeking an RN for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) on the Kent Campus in Dover. The role supports a 32-bed telemetry step-down unit with an emphasis on safety, compassion, and teamwork.

Responsibilities include direct patient care, creating patient-centered plans, medication administration, education for patients and partners, and clinical documentation. A strong orientation program and opportunities for specialty development are available.

Qualifications

  • Direct, professional nursing care in acute care setting.
  • Develops a patient-centered plan of care based on needs.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient records.
  • Counsel and educate patients and care partners on treatment plans.
  • Administer medications following five rights of medication administration.
  • Provide wound care and dressing changes as applicable.
  • Read and interpret patient information for treatment decisions.

Status: Part Time 48 Hours

Shift: Nights

SALARY RANGE: 37.98 - 58.87 HOURLY

Progressive Care Unit (PCU)- is a large 32 bed telemetry step-down unit located at the Bayhealth Kent Campus in Dover. We care for an adult 18+ patient population with complex comorbidities not limited to, but with a special focus in neurological diagnoses. We serve as a fast-paced transition point between the Intensive Care Unit and medical surgical units. We are looking for team members that are critical thinkers, adaptable, and enjoy a challenge. As a unit, we focus on teamwork and support growth and professional development at all positions. We participate in the accredited Nurse Residency Program, have a robust orientation process, and team culture that can support nurses with varying backgrounds and levels of experience

General Summary:

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within a assigned unit with a commitment to quality and safety. Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge judgment and skill are performed using the process in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and nursing philosophy.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct, professional nursing care to specified population of patients in the acute care setting.
  • Develops a patient centered plan of care based on individualized needs.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the patient medical record.
  • Counsel and educate patients and their care partner on treatment plans.
  • Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration.
  • Provide wound care and dressing changes, as applicable.
  • Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions, when appropriate.
  • Consult with physicians to decide on best treatment decisions when appropriate
  • Performs nursing interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Observe and record patient behavior and response to nursing interventions.
  • Demonstrates quality, safe and effective patient care.
  • Provides delegation to unlicensed assistive staff and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) staff
  • Demonstrates standards of excellence which includes practicing nursing with core values of compassion, accountability, respect, teamwork and integrity.
  • Demonstrates understanding and executes quality and performance improvement plans. (only for RN evaluation)
  • Participates in decision making and takes actions based on ethical principles. (only for RN evaluation)
  • Provides timely and accurate documentation of patient care.
  • All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
  • Education: Associate Degree Nursing Or Nursing Diploma.
  • Credential(s): Registered Nurse, Basic Life Support; *ACLS / PALS may be required per manager’s direction and timeframe *Commit to seeking specialty certification within time frame as indicated during interview

  • Education: Bachelor Degree Nursing
  • Credential(s): Certification related to the position, if applicable.
