SALARY RANGE: 36.17 - 56.06 HOURLY

Unit Description: PCU – The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a large 32 bed telemetry step‑down unit located at the Bayhealth Kent Campus in Dover. We care for an adult 18+ patient population with complex comorbidities not limited to, but with special focus in neurological diagnoses. We serve as a fast‑paced transition point between the Intensive Care Unit and medical surgical units. We are looking for team members that are critical thinkers, adaptable, and enjoy a challenge. As a unit, we focus on teamwork and support growth and professional development at all positions. We participate in the accredited Nurse Residency Program, have a robust orientation process, and a team culture that can support nurses with varying backgrounds and levels of experience.

General Summary

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit with a commitment to quality and safety. Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge judgment and skill are performed using the process in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and nursing philosophy.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, professional nursing care to specified population of patients in the acute care setting.
• Develop patient centered plan of care based on individualized needs.
• Maintain confidentiality of the patient medical record.
• Counsel and educate patients and their care partner on treatment plans.
• Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration.
• Provide wound care and dressing changes, as applicable.
• Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions when appropriate.
• Consult with physicians to decide on best treatment decisions when appropriate.
• Perform nursing interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Observe and record patient behavior and response to nursing interventions.
• Demonstrate quality, safe and effective patient care.
• Delegate to unlicensed assistive staff and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) staff.
• Demonstrate standards of excellence which includes practicing nursing with core values of compassion, accountability, respect, teamwork and integrity.
• Demonstrate understanding and executes quality and performance improvement plans. (only for RN evaluation)
• Participate in decision making and take actions based on ethical principles. (only for RN evaluation)
• Provide timely and accurate documentation of patient care.
• All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience

• Education: Associate Degree Nursing or Nursing Diploma.
• Credential(s): Registered Nurse, Basic Life Support • ACLS/PALS may be required per manager’s direction and timeframe • Commit to seeking specialty certification within time frame as indicated during interview.
• Experience: None Required.

• Education: Bachelor Degree Nursing.
• Credential(s): Certification related to the position, if applicable.
