Provides or assists with basic direct patient care activities under the supervision of an RN, with skills identified on applicable skills checklists for which training and competency have been established.
Responsibilities:
- Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to RN.
- Assist with vital signs, weights, personal care, activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, external monitoring devices, and urinary Foley Catheter removal.
- Help keep patient rooms clean and orderly.
- Demonstrate a positive, concerned, and sensitive response in the workplace.
- Maintain strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients and staff.
- Follow oral and written instructions in English; perform basic clinical mathematics.
- Demonstrate competencies in professional, technical, and clinical knowledge safely and effectively.
- Engage in ongoing personal growth and development through education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
Certifications:
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) preferred.
- Complete Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) within the new hire period.
- Nursing students must have BLS prior to hire.
Work Complexity:
- Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must handle stressful environments appropriately.
Work Experience:
- Proficiency in applied mathematics and reading at an 8th-grade level.
- Nursing students with recent clinical rotations or military experience as a Hospital Corpsman, Combat Medic, or Medical Service Technician will be considered.
Physical Requirements:
- Full-body motion for patient movement, manual dexterity, extensive standing and walking.
- Medium work exerting 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Use standard precautions and PPE as required.
