Job summary

Responsibilities include taking vitals, EKGs, updating charts, coordinating referrals, scheduling, assisting with medications and point-of-care lab tests, and educating patients about My Chart.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program or equivalent working experience.
• High school diploma required.
• RMA or CMA preferred; BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Follows hospital policy on patient safety and infection prevention.
• Obtains vital signs, EKGs, allergy/history data, and documents in the patient chart.
• Routes phone messages and patient questions to appropriate staff.
• Acts as liaison between physician/APP and patient.
• Calls patients with test results and assists with physician follow-up.
• Assists with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration as ordered.
• Performs point-of-care lab testing and collects samples.
• Schedules appointments, surgeries, and admissions.
• Completes paperwork, referrals, and prior authorizations promptly.
• Monitors inventory, cleans, and stocks exam areas.
• Educates patients about MyChart and enrolls them when appropriate.
• Assists in orientating and training new medical assistants.
• Meets attendance and punctuality requirements.

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program

High school diploma

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
