BJC HealthCare's 174 Integrated Spine Unit in St. Louis is seeking a Nurse Manager to lead daily operations for a 38-bed inpatient spine service that unites neurologic and orthopedic patients.

The role emphasizes collaboration with spine surgeons and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, standardized patient care. The ideal candidate has a BSN with MSN preferred, 3–5 years nursing supervisory experience and 5–10 years RN work experience; 40-hour weeks, Monday–Friday days.

Qualifications

• RN with a nursing diploma or associate's degree is required.
• 3 to 5 years of nursing supervisory experience preferred.
• 5 to 10 years of RN work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Hires, trains, assigns work, and conducts performance evaluations.
• Develops and adheres to staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets.
• Directs the delivery of safe and appropriate patient care.
• Ensures compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
• Promotes customer satisfaction and quality improvement initiatives.

Join our innovative 174 Integrated Spine Unit, a 38-bed inpatient specialty unit designed to bring together neurologic and orthopedic spine patients in one centralized location. This unique model supports standardized, high-quality patient care regardless of surgeon specialty while providing nursing professionals the opportunity to develop expertise across both orthopedic and neurologic disciplines.

The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, and leading a team of nurses and healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate is a strong and collaborative leader with excellent communication and problem-solving skills who is committed to fostering a positive work environment that promotes professional growth, teamwork, and exceptional patient care.

Role Purpose

Responsible for the operational and clinical management of a designated patient care unit(s) on a 24 hour basis. Oversees a span of control and financial responsibility of > 72 FTE's supervised + > $2.5 million in total expenses OR > 40 FTE's supervised + > $5 million in total expenses.

Responsibilities

• Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
• Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
• Directs the delivery of safe and appropriate patient care governed by evidence based clinical and management practice.
• Ensures team compliance with departmental policies, regulatory requirements and professional standards; keeps policies and procedures up-to-date and participates in revisions as needed.
• Promotes, and is accountable for customer satisfaction, process indicators, quality improvement plans and outcomes in work unit.
• Researches, evaluates, selects and implements systems which improve efficiency of work unit operations.
• Supports and assists the growth of existing or new business/programs.
