Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Training in phlebotomy and electrocardiography (EKG) or related programs.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or required by facility.
• New York State Nurse’s Aide certification may be required for long-term care assignment.

Responsibilities

• Check vitals, weigh and measure patients and record findings.
• Instruct patients on specimen collection and perform basic specimen screening.
• Collect specimens (venipuncture/fingerstick) for lab testing.
• Perform vision/hearing screening and simple urinalysis.
• Administer basic first aid and support patient exams.
• Prepare examination room and assist providers during exams with supplies and equipment.
• Maintain patient charts and necessary forms; document health information.
• Coordinate patient scheduling and direct patients to departments as needed.
• Operate ECG equipment and record heart activity as required.
