Job summary

Mass General Brigham Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape and Islands seeks a Patient Care Assistant to join our on-site team in Sandwich, MA. You will assist the nursing staff with daily patient care and help create a safe, compassionate environment for our patients.

You’ll perform tasks under an RN, including basic grooming, turning, vital signs, and documentation, while participating in rounds and helping with meals, mobility, and patient comfort in a supportive hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; NA certification preferred.
  • Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English; basic math and computer skills.
  • CPR certification required; knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out patient care plan as directed by RN.
  • Assist with bed baths, toileting, grooming, and linen changes.
  • Monitor vital signs and blood glucose as directed.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist with feeding as needed.
  • Respond to call lights and rounds; participate in rounds.
  • Document patient care accurately in the medical record.
  • Organize room and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Provide mentorship to new nursing assistants as needed.

We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.Job SummaryUnder the direction of a registered/licensed nurse (RN), the PCA as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team assists in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.Key ResponsibilitiesPatient care plan is carried out as directed by Registered Nurse.Patient physical care is provided such as bed bath, toileting, grooming, changing bed linen, etc. per established guidelines.Patient general care is provided such as positioning, lifting, and turning, and using adaptive and transfer equipment per established guidelines.Patient monitoring activities such as vital signs and blood glucose are performed per established guidelines.Patients are prepared for meals, assisting when appropriate to meet patients’ need.Patient rounds are performed regularly, and call lights are answered promptly to meet patients’ needs.Patient care is documented in a timely manner adhering to established standards.Patient room clutter is organized to make best use of space and clean environment.Specimens are obtained and labeled consistent with established procedures.Mentoring and teaching is provided for new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.Additional department, organization, or network activities are completed per established objectives.MGB Organizational Values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence are upheld.QualificationsEducation/Degree Required:High school diploma, GEDor equivalent required unless candidate holds a nursing assistant certification. Experience/CertificationRequired:Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care.Preferred:Enrollment in a Nursing, Pre-Med, or Physician Assistant (PA) undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire.OR - Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire.Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)Required:Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills with the English language.Must demonstrate basic skills in math and computer science.Must demonstrate the ability to perform, modify, and record all physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.Preferred:Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse population.Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.Anticipates challenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them.High level of service delivery.
