Job summary

Mass General Brigham Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape and Islands seeks a Patient Care Assistant to join our on-site team in Sandwich, MA. You will assist the nursing staff with daily patient care and help create a safe, compassionate environment for our patients.

You’ll perform tasks under an RN, including basic grooming, turning, vital signs, and documentation, while participating in rounds and helping with meals, mobility, and patient comfort in a supportive hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; NA certification preferred.
• Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care.
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English; basic math and computer skills.
• CPR certification required; knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.

Responsibilities

• Carry out patient care plan as directed by RN.
• Assist with bed baths, toileting, grooming, and linen changes.
• Monitor vital signs and blood glucose as directed.
• Prepare patients for meals and assist with feeding as needed.
• Respond to call lights and rounds; participate in rounds.
• Document patient care accurately in the medical record.
• Organize room and maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Provide mentorship to new nursing assistants as needed.

Experience/CertificationRequired:Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care.Preferred:Enrollment in a Nursing, Pre-Med, or Physician Assistant (PA) undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire.OR - Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire.Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)Required:Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills with the English language.Must demonstrate basic skills in math and computer science.Must demonstrate the ability to perform, modify, and record all physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.Preferred:Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse population.Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.Anticipates challenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them.High level of service delivery.
