Job summary

St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, NJ, is seeking a Patient Care Associate/Technician to assist patients with daily living activities and provide basic care to acutely ill individuals. You will help maintain a safe, clean environment and support nursing staff with routine tasks.

The role requires completing EKGs and venipuncture as directed by the Registered Nurse. Eligible candidates may have a CNA or PCA/PCT diploma and must obtain BLS within six months of hire; on-site

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• PCA/PCT diploma with NHCA certification or CNA certification.
• Enrolled in nursing school with Nursing Fundamentals coursework may be substituted.
• PCA/PCT, Home Health Aide or CMA experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living.
• Provide basic care to acutely ill patients.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment.
• Perform EKGs and venipuncture as directed by the RN.

Education

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification OR PCA/PCT diploma with National Health Career Association certification OR
• Enrolled in an accredited nursing school program and has completed Nursing Fundamentals level coursework in lieu of PCA/PCT diploma/certification OR
• Provides evidence of completion in Nursing Fundamental level coursework OR Evidence of Completion in of a Nursing Assistant training program OR
• PCA/PCT, Home Health Aide or CMA experience

Effective January 2019, St. Joseph’s Health requires certifications for Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) to be granted through the American Heart Association
