A leading health service provider is seeking a Patient Care Associate for the Emergency Department. Responsibilities include measuring vital signs, assisting with patient care, and maintaining high standards of hygiene. Candidates should hold a high school diploma and relevant certifications in phlebotomy and Basic Life Support.

11:45 P.M – 7:45 A.M
Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, physician, or other healthcare professional performs a variety of clinical and clerical duties associated with the care of patients in the Emergency Department.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The Patient Care Associate is charged with and responsible for:
• Measure vital signs, height/weight and head circumference (Pediatrics only), records results, and reports findings to licensed professional.
• Assists in the preparation and positioning of patients for various tests and examinations.
• Performs electrocardiographs, vision and hearing tests, and provides licensed professional with documented results.
• Prepares, labels, and collects, various specimens for testing, including phlebotomy.
• Performs the necessary documentation utilizing manual or electronic procedures.
• Administers Basic Life Support (BLS) during emergencies.
• Maintains inventory of necessary stock and supplies, and prepares examination rooms appropriately.
• Escorts and transfers patients to various departments as necessary.
• Maintains Infection Control standards to ensure patient/employee safety
• Exhibits courteous and effective communication with all healthcare team members, patients, and families with respect to cultural diversity.
• Performs the basic functions of a nursing assistant in the Emergency Department.
• Reinforces instructions given to patient/family by licensed professionals.
• Provides care to patients throughout the growth and development continuum.
• Maintains patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA rules and regulations.
1. High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and
2. Successful completion of training courses in the performance of phlebotomy and electrocardiography (EKG), or completion of a training program or programs that include the performance of phlebotomy and EKG, such as Phlebotomy Technician and EKG Technician training programs, a Patient Care training program, or a Medical Assistant training program; and
3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
