They monitor patient conditions and identify potential risk factors, recognizing and accommodating patients' special needs to individualize care, including pain management and supportive care issues. The assistant is accountable for delivering patient care within their scope of practice and must learn and communicate relevant policies and procedures. They demonstrate teamwork by responding promptly and courteously to call lights and contribute to a positive educational environment for students and new employees, serving as a preceptor when necessary. Understanding their role according to hospital policy and state regulations is essential. They utilize information management systems like Meditech to enhance communication, report changes in patient condition, and transfer patient responsibility effectively. They cooperate with all hospital areas during patient admissions and transfers, updating licensed staff regularly, maintaining fall risk precautions, and running errands as needed.
