Primary Purpose

Performs specified patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, focusing on patient-centered care.

Minimum Specifications

Education

• Completion of or current enrollment in one of the following: nurse aide course, medical assistant course, patient care technician course, or equivalent certification; or graduation from an accredited nursing school with documentation of fundamentals of nursing; or participation in Parkland's job-specific training program.

Experience

• None required.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

• Current Heartsaver CPR certification from American Heart Association or Red Cross, obtained within 90 days of hire or placement.

• Basic patient care skills, effective communication, and patient-centered behaviors.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic hygiene, unsterile treatments, vital signs, and mobility activities under RN supervision.
• Act as a patient advocate, maintaining confidentiality and effective communication.
• Monitor patient status, respond to changes, and document activities accurately.
• Maintain sanitation, safety, and proper equipment use, reporting issues promptly.
• Escort patients, perform quality checks, and deliver specimens as needed.
• Suggest process improvements to enhance effectiveness and patient satisfaction.
• Engage in ongoing education and adhere to relevant rules and regulations.
