Primary Purpose

Performs specified patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse and is committed to the provision of patient-centered/patient-valued care.

Minimum Specifications
Education
  • Must have completed or hold one of the following:
  • A formal nurse aide course
  • A current certified nurse aide registry
  • A medical assistant course
  • A current medical assistant certificate
  • A patient care technician course
  • A current patient care technician certificate
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing with documentation of basic nursing fundamentals from the school
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Parkland's job-specific training program
Experience

None required.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

Must have a current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire or placement in the job, from one of the following:

  • American Heart Association
  • American Red Cross
Skills or Special Abilities
  • Demonstrate basic patient care skills and proficiency in the use of supplies and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with departmental personnel, nurses, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Exhibit patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors.
Responsibilities
  1. Perform patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse, including hygiene care, unsterile treatments, vital signs, and range of motion exercises. Assist with mobility and feeding, ensuring patient-centered care.
  2. Act as a patient advocate by responding to needs and requests, maintaining communication, and respecting patient rights and confidentiality.
  3. Monitor patient status and respond to changes by notifying nurses and assisting with care as needed.
  4. Document activities such as vital signs, ambulation, and feeding outcomes accurately and timely.
  5. Maintain knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, and equipment usage; monitor and report environmental or equipment issues.
  6. Escort patients, assist with cleaning, translation services, quality checks, and specimen delivery to ensure optimal care.
  7. Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend changes to enhance effectiveness and satisfaction.
  8. Engage in ongoing education and professional development, applying new knowledge to practice.
  9. Stay informed of relevant regulations, policies, and laws, ensuring compliance and effective internal controls.
