Job summary

Mass General Brigham's Emergency Department seeks a Patient Care Assistant to support adult, pediatric, and burn trauma patients. You will assist with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, and document in the EMR, working under licensed personnel in a Level I trauma center.

The role requires lifting up to 35 pounds, strong patient service skills, and ability to work an evening, 12-hour shift with weekend/holiday rotation at 267 Charles Street, Boston.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
• BLS certification required
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Nursing Assistant certification preferred
• Experience in patient care is a plus, especially elder care

Responsibilities

• Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs.
• Completes all documentation in the medical record.
• Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
• Assists with activities of daily living and basic hygiene tasks.
• Helps with turning and repositioning patients and moves them between bed and wheelchair.

The Opportunity: Patient Care Assistant – The Emergency Department

The Emergency Department is a Level I Adult, Pediatric and Burn Trauma Center. It spans the ground floor of 3 buildings and is divided into several areas, including pediatric and psychiatric areas.

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients’ temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Essential Functions

• Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.
• Completes all documentation in the medical record as required.
• Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
• Helps patients with a number of basic hygiene tasks. This may include bathing and dressing patients, helping them use the toilet if needed, and feeding them.
• Assist with helping patients turn and reposition themselves in bed as needed and help them move between the bed and a wheelchair if they use one.
• Listens to any health concerns patients may have and report those concerns to the nurses.
