Job Description

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) I performs duties to enhance patient experience while maintaining patient comfort and a safe patient environment. All care is provided based on the concepts inherent in the model of care for TCH, promoting an ongoing partnership between patients, families, and healthcare providers. The care is culturally sensitive and age-specific. All direct patient care is under the supervision of and delegated by the Registered Nurse, according to Ohio Board of Nursing guidelines.

Responsibilities

1. Clinical: Performs clinical care duties as assigned and instructed by the RN, following Ohio Board of Nursing delegation guidelines. Meets clinical skill standards guided by the PCA Core Skills Competency Checklist. Maintains patient confidentiality and protects operations by keeping care information secure.
2. Leadership & Accountability: Demonstrates key behavioral competencies such as effective communication, customer service orientation, resilience, adaptability, teamwork, accountability, and professional development.
3. Environment and Safety: Ensures and promotes patient and unit safety.
4. Comfort: Provides personal hygiene and comfort care, documenting procedures per policy.
5. Communication: Orientates patients and families to hospital environment and services, facilitating communication throughout hospitalization.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills: Basic patient care skills, confidentiality, effective communication.

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience: None required (0-1 years).

Licenses, Registrations & Certifications: Certification in AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers before patient contact. No other credentials required or preferred.
