Responsibilities

The Patient Care Assistant II (PCA II) is a certified individual who performs direct care in the department setting. The PCA II maintains current certification in patient care, assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care, and helps maintain a safe environment under the supervision of an RN, ensuring that activities do not interfere with primary responsibilities such as dysrhythmia monitoring.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Training:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Current Certification in Patient Care (e.g., M.A., CNA, EMT, Paramedic, Patient Care Tech).
  3. Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate (preferred to maintain).
  4. Current BLS (AHA) certification.
  5. Six months of previous experience as a Monitor Technician (preferred).
  6. Current Phlebotomy certification (preferred).
  7. Current EKG certification (preferred).
  8. Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  9. Minimum six months of experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office (preferred).

Facility-Specific Requirements:

  1. Current Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) certificate within 6 months of hire, maintained as per facility policy.
Compensation and Benefits

Saint Joseph Medical Center - Joliet offers competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, a 401K plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and voluntary benefits. The estimated total compensation range for this role is $18.00 to $26.68 per hour, depending on experience, education, credentials, and other factors. The exact starting salary will be determined at the time of hire.
