Job summary

St. Mary\'s Hospital - Kankakee is seeking a Patient Care Assistant II to monitor cardiac rhythms and provide indirect care under RN supervision. The role includes assisting with daily living activities and maintaining a safe environment while focusing on dysrhythmia monitoring.

Required certifications include patient care, BLS within 30 days, and preferred dysrhythmia as well as phlebotomy and EKG credentials. Full-time, day shift, competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Current certification in patient care is required or relevant licensure.
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation certificate preferred and kept current.
  • Basic Life Support (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintained.
  • Six months of monitor tech experience preferred, in acute care or clinic setting.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred on hire, if available.
  • EKG certification preferred on hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology for clinical communication.
  • Minimum six months experience in an acute care hospital or physician's office preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms via direct monitor and assist in safety of patients.
  • Provide indirect nursing care and assist with activities of daily living as directed.
  • Support RN supervision and maintain primary duties without distracting from rhythm monitoring.

Education

Current Certification in Patient Care
Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate
BLS (AHA) within 30 days
Phlebotomy certification
EKG certification
High School Diploma or equivalent
Six months Monitor Technician experience

Job description

Responsibilities

The Patient Care Assistant II (PCA II) is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. The PCA II is responsible to monitor cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitor. May assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to all patients and assists in maintenance of a safe environment under the direction and supervision of the RN and within the scope of the Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) job description as long as the activity does not distract from primary responsibility for dysrhythmia monitoring.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  • 1. Current Certification in Patient Care required (M.A. / CNA / EMT / Paramedic / Patient Care Tech, etc.).
  • 2. Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.
  • 3. Current BLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current 4.
  • 4. Six months previous experience as Monitor Technician, preferred.
  • 5. Current Phlebotomy certification upon hire, preferred.
  • 6. Current EKG certification upon hire, preferred.
  • 7. Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • 8. Minimum six months previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office, preferred.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $18.90 to $28.01.
