Job summary

CommonSpirit Health's CHI St. Vincent Morrilton is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to help patients feel safer and more comfortable by assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vitals, and preparing rooms.

You will perform direct patient care as delegated by RNs, assist with hygiene, mobility, feeding, and coordinate with unit staff. A high school diploma or GED plus CPR/BLS within 30 days is required; prior experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with personal hygiene and physical care needs.

• Record daily weight and perform blood glucose testing.
• Report changes in patient status promptly to RN.
• Assist in admission, transfer and discharge processes.
• Perform unit housekeeping needs.
• Deliver specimens, pick up medications and other items.
• Act as receptionist for unit; limited use of hospital information systems.
• Check and document refrigerator temperatures and report variances.
• Update bed status and answer call lights/phones.
• Maintain a clean patient environment and ensure safety; communicate professionally with families and staff.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Patient Care Assistant, you'll help our patients feel safer and more comfortable by assisting with their basic daily life activities.

Every day, you will directly support patients with tasks such as personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding, while also assisting nursing staff with vital sign monitoring and preparing patient rooms.

Your success in this role comes from your genuine desire to help patients feel better, whether that means giving them fresh bed linens or checking their vitals. You're diligent about your tasks, observant of patients’ conditions improving or declining, and accept coaching well.

• Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff.
• Monitors and records vital signs.
• Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs.

• Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output.
• Obtains and records daily weight.
• Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meter.

• Reports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN.
• Performs as a sitter or patient care companion when needed.
• Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge process.

• Performs unit housekeeping needs.
• Delivers specimens, picks up medications and other items.
• Acts as receptionist for unit; has limited use of the hospital information systems according to hospital policy dependent on the need of unit.

• Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variances to appropriate personnel.
• Updates assigned bed status.
• Answers call lights and telephone.

• Keeps patient environment clean, performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clear of obstruction, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautions.
• Communicates with patient’s family, physicians, and unit personnel and peers in an accurate, courteous, and professional manner.
