Primary Purpose

Performs specified patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse, committed to providing patient-centered/patient-valued care.

Minimum Specifications
Education
  • Must have completed or hold one of the following:
  • A formal nurse aide course
  • A current certified nurse aide registry
  • A medical assistant course
  • A current medical assistant certificate
  • A patient care technician course
  • A current patient care technician certificate

Additionally, must be enrolled in or a graduate of an accredited nursing program with appropriate documentation, or have completed Parkland's job-specific training program.

Experience

None required.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

Must have a current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire or placement from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Skills or Special Abilities
  • Demonstrate basic patient care skills and proficiency with supplies and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Exhibit patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors.
Responsibilities
  1. Perform patient care activities under RN supervision, including hygiene, unsterile treatments, vital signs, and range of motion exercises, ensuring patient-centered care.
  2. Act as a patient advocate, responding to needs and respecting rights and confidentiality.
  3. Monitor patient status, respond to changes, and assist in care handling.
  4. Accurately document activities such as vital signs and feeding outcomes.
  5. Maintain sanitation, infection control, and safety standards; monitor environment and equipment.
  6. Escort patients, perform quality checks, and deliver specimens to support patient care.
  7. Identify and recommend improvements in work processes to enhance effectiveness and satisfaction.
  8. Engage in ongoing education and professional development.
  9. Understand and adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and policies, ensuring compliance and proper controls.
