Job summary

Riverside Health in Newport News, Virginia is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide direct patient care under the supervision of the RN. The role includes wound care, obtaining EKGs, basic phlebotomy, and other tasks within validated competency.

You will ensure a safe environment and accurate documentation in the EMR per RHS standards. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, 1 year of hospital experience (preferred), and active CNA/EMT/MAP credentials or enrollment

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (Preferred).
• 1 year healthcare experience in a hospital setting (Preferred).
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), EMT-B, Medical Assistant program graduate, or currently enrolled in LPN/RN with 80 hours completed (Required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required).

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care under RN supervision, including basic wound care, EKGs, and phlebotomy tasks.
• Perform procedures and treatments independently as competency allows.
• Document clinical and quality data accurately in the EMR per RHS standards.
• Ensure resources and clean, safe work areas are maintained for positive patient outcomes.
• Assist with patient admits, discharges, or transfers per charge nurse direction.

Overview

Works under the supervision of Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of the patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified functions in tasks where there is validated competency including: simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. In addition, this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure. Promotes and maintains safe work environment for staff as well as our customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.

What You Will Do

• Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.


• Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN. This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements vital signs, ice application, compresses, EKGs, drawing blood, specimen collection, etc.


• Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.


• Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes. Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.


• Demonstrates the ability to be able to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.

Qualifications

Education

Experience

• 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Virginia Department of Health Professions Upon Hire (Required) or


• EMT-B (Basic), Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Upon Hire (Required) or


• Medical Assistant Program Graduate Upon Hire (Required) or
