Job summary

Riverside Health Newport News is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to support patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will perform basic tasks such as wound care, EKGs, phlebotomy, and splinting, while ensuring safety and comfort for patients of all ages per unit policy.

Responsibilities include documenting care in the EMR, following the plan of care under RN direction, and maintaining a clean, stocked, and safe environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
• 1 year prior healthcare experience in a hospital setting (preferred).
• CNA, EMT-B, Medical Assistant Program Graduate, or nursing student with 80 hours completed (Required by hire or ongoing).
• BLS certification required (or to be obtained upon hire).

• Demonstrates understanding of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.
• Follows plan of care to include treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN.
• Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation per RHS standards.
• Maintains availability of resources and keeps the work environment clean, safe and orderly.
• Assists with admitting, discharge, or transfer under charge nurse direction.

Overview

Works under the supervision of Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of the patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified functions in tasks where there is validated competency including: simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. In addition, this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure. Promotes and maintains safe work environment for staff as well as our customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.

What You Will Do

• Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.


• Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN. This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements vital signs, ice application, compresses, EKGs, drawing blood, specimen collection, etc.


• Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.


• Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes. Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.


• Demonstrates the ability to be able to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.

Experience

• 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Virginia Department of Health Professions Upon Hire (Required) or


• EMT-B (Basic), Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Upon Hire (Required) or


• Medical Assistant Program Graduate Upon Hire (Required) or


• Currently enrolled in LPN or RN Nursing diploma or degree program with 80 hours completed Upon Hire (Required)


• Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
