Job summary

Responsibilities include data collection, following care plans, safe intervention execution, and accurate documentation. Certifications (CNA, BLS) are required with entry to the role; CPI knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• 6 months medical center experience.
• Courses in medical terminology.
• CNA certification recognized across states.
• BLS certification within two weeks of employment.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) knowledge is preferred.
• 16- and 17-year-olds may be hired as PRN.

Responsibilities

• Collect initial and ongoing patient data as delegated.
• Follow an individualized plan of care to promote outcomes.
• Carry out delegated patient care interventions safely per policy.
• Document patient responses to interventions.
• Communicate with the health care team about patient status.
• Comply with safety restrictions for under-18 employees regarding certain equipment.
• Perform required competencies on the assigned unit.

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Patient Care Assistant - GB is an unlicensed staff member who is accountable to and completes delegated tasks from the RN in a caring and culturally sensitive manner, with excellent customer service at all times.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Collects initial and on-going data as delegated in regards to the health status of the patient based on chart documentation.
• Follows an individualized plan of care that promotes positive immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team.
• Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes as delegated.
• Accurately documents patient response to intervention /therapy based upon expected outcomes.
• Carries out delegated patient care activities and communicates with other members of the healthcare team as evidenced by positive patient outcomes.
• For safety reasons, employees under the age of 18 are not allowed to operate or assist with the operation of power-driven hoisting apparatuses including but not limited to: floor-based vertical powered patient/resident lift devices, ceiling-mounted vertical powered patient/resident lift devices, and powered sit-to-stand patient/resident lift devices (lifting devices).
• For safety reasons, employees under the age of 18 are not allowed to provide care to patients where this is potential exposure to radioactive substances and/or to ionizing radiations.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

Required Licensure and Certification

• Certified Nurse Aide / Assistant (CNA) - State Department for Aging and Disability Services (KS), Department of Health & Senior Services (MO) - Includes licenses for all other states
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment
• Additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations.

Preferred Licensure and Certification

• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)

Knowledge Requirements

• 16- and 17-year-olds are eligible to be hired as a PRN.
