Job summary

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska seeks a Patient Advocate to support patients in the Patient Accounts Department. You will handle payments, A/R tasks, and help patients understand Healthcare Finance within the YKHC system.

Ideal candidates have a background in healthcare reimbursement, error-free data entry, and strong time-management abilities. This is a regular full-time role with comprehensive benefits and a focus on community health.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years’ experience in health care reimbursement and customer service.
• Two (2) years’ experience with healthcare reimbursement.
• Experience managing the collections, denials, and reimbursement of complex lines of business such as Long Term Care, Inpatient, Ambulatory Surgery, or Behavioral Health.
• AAHAM CRCS-I/-P required or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
• AMBA Medical Billing Certification Preferred
• HFMA CRCR Preferred
• Experience using office machinery including printers, photocopiers, fax machines, and multi-line phone systems
• IHS Tribal Billing knowledge required
• Cerner Millennium Revenue Cycle knowledge preferred
• College level course in Medical Terminology preferred
• Versed in Microsoft Office Suite
• Typing speed of 60 wpm
• 10-key calculator skills, by touch

Responsibilities

• Represent the patients of YKHC in the Patient Accounts Department.
• Assist patients in understanding and accessing resources.
• Receive and certify payments; perform A/R transactions.
• Assist with interpretation of Healthcare Finance into practical information.

This position is responsible for customer service activities in the Patient Accounts Department, which includes helping patients find the resources that best meet their needs. The Patient Advocate receives and certifies payments, is an A-R transaction specialist, and helps patients interpret Healthcare Finance into practical information. The candidate brings with them a long professional history of patient access, billing, account resolution, denial management, and collections experience. Candidate must have the ability to adjust to an uneven flow of incoming workload. Must be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills and be able to set timelines and goals to ensure that all assigned duties are accomplished within established time frames.
