Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Review accounts to determine patient responsibilities and balances.
  • Contact patients with past-due balances to facilitate payment.
  • Collaborate with internal/external parties to resolve account discrepancies.
  • Interpret policies and provide guidance to staff and patients.
  • Post patient payments daily to reflect current balances.
  • Process refund requests per contracts and laws.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance for patient records.
  • Communicate professionally to maintain positive patient relations.
  • Handle inbound/outbound calls; resolve inquiries.
  • Support Account Recovery Team to meet goals.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.

Premier Medical Resources is looking for a full-time Patient Accounts Specialist to join our team!

SUMMARY

The Patient Accounts Specialist is responsible for managing and monitoring patient accounts after insurance claims have been finalized and ensuring the timely and accurate resolution of outstanding balances. This position analyzes accounts, identifies and resolves billing discrepancies, coordinates with internal departments, and communicates with patients regarding their financial responsibility. The Specialist ensures accurate account resolution while providing exceptional customer service and maintaining compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Review or analysis an account to determine true patient responsibilities, insurance, contractual obligations or other responsible parties or outstanding balances
  • Initiates contact with patients who have past-due balances to facilitate timely payment.
  • Collaborates with internal personnel and external parties to resolve discrepancies in accounts.
  • Interprets department policies and procedures, providing guidance to personnel, patients, and family members as necessary.
  • Processes and post patient payments daily to ensure account balances accurately reflect the current amount due.
  • Researches and processes all refund requests in compliance with insurance contractual obligations, as well as state and federal laws.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all medical records and patient information in compliance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Promotes positive patient relations by communicating with patients and their families in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner that demonstrates respect for the dignity of every individual.
  • Handles inbound and outbound patient and/or carrier calls promptly and professionally, providing assistance and resolution to account inquiries, issues, and requests
  • Provides support to the Account Recovery Specialist team in achieving departmental goals.
  • Performs other related tasks as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, ability to organize and resolve outstanding delinquencies.
  • Demonstrates decision-making skills based on accurate information and/or analysis of data.
  • Strong communication skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid knowledge of medical terminology, technical job knowledge, CPT codes, ICD-10 codes and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite including World, Outlook, and strong Excel skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of experience in billing collections in a hospital setting
