Job summary

Opelousas General Health System in Louisiana is seeking a detail-oriented patient accounts representative to support the billing team. You will document patient accounts, follow up on claims, and answer inquiries about payments, discounts, and copays with confidentiality and courtesy.

Responsibilities include researching EOBs, placing calls on outstanding balances, and assisting with daily tasks to keep the department efficient. A High School Diploma or GED and solid computer skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Checks status on claims for patients requesting follow up on their claim.
• Places telephone calls on outstanding A/R balances as directed by supervisor.
• Responds timely to messages left on voice mail.
• Pulls and researches EOBs to assist patients with questions on payments, network discounts, and copays which determines their balances.
• Directs and provides assistance to patients in a courteous and positive manner.
• Assists supervisor with duties and special projects daily.
• Collects money for hospital.
• Documents and forwards patient complaints to supervisor.
• Receives and documents phone messages for co-workers accurately and in a professional manner.
• Handles phone inquiries with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for confidentiality.
• Assists co-workers in the completion of daily tasks or special projects to support the department's efficiency.
• Researches, completes and documents refunds daily.
