Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking an exempt, day-shift leader for the Newton location to supervise patient access operations across registration, admissions, and financial counseling. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in leadership within Patient Access and 5 years in related areas, with HFMA/NAHAM certification expected within the first year of hire.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience within Patient Access.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in areas like Registration, Insurance Verification/Financial Clearance, Financial Counseling.
  • National certification in HFMA CHFP or CRCR or NAHAM CHAM required within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise each functional area of the hospital's patient access services (outpatient registration, ER registration, admissions, bed assignment, financial counseling).
  • Monitor patient tracking systems, registration reports, and financial clearance activities to meet KPIs.
  • Coordinate investigation and resolution of patient/family or staff complaints.
  • Provide operational guidance and support to team; disseminate policy updates; cover other divisions as needed.

Direction & Growth:

Providing advice, guidance & leadership to service area, functional area, RHM & Regions.

Leading standardization / systemness & optimization of policy, process, methodology, establishing a national community of practice.

Oversee Vendor / Contract Labor Management including centralizing strategy & optimizing spend.

Strategic Support & Accountability:

Collaborates in system-wide strategy development & deployment of functional area priorities & initiatives.

Responsible for supporting regional efforts to comply with functional area priorities.

Accountable for the selection, evaluation & overall success of the functional leadership teams.

Organization-wide focal point for establishing functional strategies & governance over financials & staffing.

Accountable for communication between service area functional area, RHM & Region leaders.

Operational Delivery

Responsible for measuring & reporting KPIs / metrics &value delivery.

Providing advice, guidance & leadership for the colleague life cycle.

Maintains a Working Knowledge of applicable federal, state & local laws / regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of Conduct, as well as other policies, procedures & guidelines in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical & professional behavior & safe work practices.

FUNCTIONAL ROLE
  • Maintains & demonstrates knowledge to successfully supervise each functional area of the hospital including, but not limited to all outpatient registration points, emergency room registration, admissions, bed assignment & financial counseling.
  • Regularly monitors the patient tracking system, registration reports & financial clearance activities to ensure patients are registered within key performance standards.
  • Monitors all financial clearance activity ensuring all accounts are verified at time of service & meet medical necessity requirements.
  • Coordinates investigation & appropriate resolution of problems from patient/family or staff complaints.
  • Resolves patient questions regarding payment requirements/charges referred by the registrars.
  • Provides operational guidance & support to assigned team, disseminates policy/procedure updates, supports coverage of other departmental divisions as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field of study or equivalent combination of education & / or experience.

Three (3) to Five (5) years of leadership experience within Patient Access

Five (5) years of relevant experience in functional areas of Patient Access such as Registration,

Insurance Verification/Financial Clearance, Financial Counseling, or other relevant experience.

Obtain national certification in HFMA CHFP or CRCR or NAHAM CHAM required within one (1) year of hire.
