Job description

The Patient Access Supervisor provides leadership and oversight for the Admitting/Registration team, ensuring exceptional patient experiences, accurate registration and financial information, regulatory compliance, and efficient departmental operations. This role serves as a mentor and resource for staff, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement while supporting the hospital’s mission and values.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily Patient Access operations, ensuring high levels of customer service, accuracy, and productivity
  • Lead, coach, train, and develop staff through ongoing education, mentoring, and performance management
  • Monitor quality assurance activities and implement corrective actions to improve performance and compliance
  • Audit registration records, diagnosis codes, physician orders, and supporting documentation for accuracy and regulatory compliance
  • Review Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaires and Important Messages from Medicare to ensure CMS compliance
  • Verify and maintain accurate patient demographic, insurance, and financial information within the Meditech system
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly productivity and volume reports
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorizations through electronic systems and payer communication
  • Support patient financial processes, including selfpay collections and financial assistance documentation
  • Assist with bed assignments, room transfers, census reconciliation, and bed board management
  • Resolve patient concerns, complaints, and service issues in a professional and timely manner
  • Foster positive working relationships and promote collaboration across departments
  • Identify opportunities for workflow improvements and participate in process improvement initiatives
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and collaborate with leadership on disciplinary actions and staff development plans
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with all hospital policies and regulatory requirements
  • Provide operational support and coverage as needed, including occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call assistance
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a hospital, physician practice, or healthcare registration.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical, and customer service skill.
  • Proficient in medical terminology, computer applications, and keyboarding (35–45 WPM).
  • Knowledge of healthcare coding, billing, insurance verification, and authorization requirement.
  • Understanding of CMS, EMTALA, HIPAA, and other applicable healthcare regulation.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, work independently, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
