Job summary

Howard University Hospital seeks a Patient Access Associate I to provide registration, admission, bed management, and financial clearance services for patients receiving care. The role includes handling inquiries, verifying insurance, and ensuring accurate data entry in hospital systems while maintaining HIPAA privacy and a high standard of patient service.

This position requires a High School Diploma or GED (Associate’s Degree preferred) and 3 years of related experience in a medical setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Three years of experience in patient access/registration, billing, cash collections, insurance, or related medical center experience.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and recordkeeping; MS applications knowledge.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and telephone etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Provide registration, admission, bed management, financial clearance, and cash collection services.
• Answer and respond to phone calls and patient inquiries.
• Verify insurance coverage and eligibility.
• Enter demographic, financial, insurance, and registration data into hospital systems.
• Maintain patient records with electronic scanning and documentation systems.
