Job summary

Howard University Hospital seeks a Patient Access Associate I to handle registration, admission, bed management, and financial clearance for patients. You will verify demographics, enter data into hospital systems, and collect payments while providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities include answering inquiries, verifying insurance, and referring self-pay or Medicaid applicants to the appropriate teams.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Three years of patient access/registration experience or related medical setting work.
• Familiar with medical terminology and record keeping.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and telephone etiquette.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions and priority changes.

Responsibilities

• Provide registration, admission, bed management, financial clearance, and cash collection.
• Answer calls and patient inquiries; verify insurance coverage and eligibility.
• Verify and enter patient demographics and financial data into hospital systems.
• Utilize scheduling and documentation systems to book clinics and beds.
• Identify self-pay or Medicaid applicants and route to appropriate teams.
• Ensure confidentiality under HIPAA and maintain accurate patient records.
