Job description

This role is HYBRID - First 60 days in office, then 3 days WFH / 2 Onsite. Subject to change.

Job Summary

The Patient Access Specialist ensures timely patient access to provider services. The incumbent handles all patient telephone calls with professionalism and personal attention, aiming for maximum customer satisfaction. Strong interpersonal skills, accurate data collection, resource identification, and matching patients and referring providers to accessible solutions are essential for delivering excellent customer service. The Patient Access Specialist may work from home; if so, a minimum internet speed of 25 to 50 Mbps is recommended, with at least 15 Mbps for uploading large files.

Summary of Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  1. Answer, triage, and process requests for new patient appointments with primary and specialty providers promptly, respecting patient preferences and insurance plans where appropriate.
  2. Collect and verify patient and insurance demographics.
  3. Collaborate with primary care and specialty provider offices to coordinate information transfer and enhance the patient experience.
  4. Ensure all scheduled appointments and referrals are properly documented with accurate insurance and patient demographics.
  5. Expedite the highest number of requests efficiently while maintaining exceptional customer service.
  6. Promote cooperation and helpful behavior among team members. Participate in performance improvement activities.
  7. Maintain a professional demeanor in all communications, including inter-departmental, customer, peer, and leadership interactions.

Minimum Requirements

  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting using computerized scheduling software.
  3. Excellent computer skills, leadership qualities, and strong organization and project management skills.
  4. Previous call center experience preferred.
  5. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred; bilingual employees must complete the Bridging the Gap Program within one year of employment.
