Job summary

MultiCare Valley Hospital in Spokane Valley is seeking a Patient Access Technician (PAT) to ensure accurate patient admission and registration. This interim, intermediate-level clerical role emphasizes service orientation, judgment and independent thinking in daily tasks.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Assistance Medical Billing & Insurance
• One (1) year of experience performing admitting, Health Unit Coordinator, patient registration, customer service or billing duties; healthcare setting preferred

Responsibilities

• Assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
• Obtain inpatient bed assignments and processes inpatient admission, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms
• Pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission/registration process
• Obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system in order to notify other areas
• Complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with the patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic insurance and/or third-party liability information
• Perform eligibility verification and resolve any discrepancies, determine the need for financial assistance recommendation and application, referring to the Financial Counselor where necessary

As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position.

The pay scale is $21.07 - $31.60 USD.

However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
