Job summary

Universal Health Services (ARCBO) in the Atlantic Region Central Billing Office seeks a Patient Access Specialist to handle inbound/outbound calls, schedule and pre-register patients, and collect co-pays at registration.

The role requires interpreting managed care contracts and Medicare regulations to ensure accurate scheduling and payer compliance across SMS and Cerner systems.

Qualifications

  • Takes inbound/outbound calls, schedules and pre-registers patients in SMS and Cerner systems.
  • Attempts to collect co-pays and deductibles at pre-registration.
  • Interprets managed care contracts; Medicare regulations; medical and anatomy terminology and applies knowledge to scheduling/registration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduling, pre-registration and insurance verification within 24 hours of receipt of reservation/notification for both inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Contact physician to resolve issues regarding prior authorization or referral forms.
  • Research patient visit history to ensure compliance with the Medicare 72 hour rule and ABN as applicable.
  • Contact patient in a timely and courteous manner to confirm or obtain missing demographic information, quote/collect patient payment and instruct where to present at time of appointment.
  • Perform electronic eligibility confirmation utilizing HDX and call insurances when necessary.
  • Work with facility departments and internal departments of the CBO to investigate and resolve issues associated with patient or insurance company inquiries.
  • Act as a liaison to hospital departments in resolving issues and documenting accordingly.
  • Implements and follows system downtime procedures when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for taking inbound calls, making outbound calls, timely and accurately scheduling and pre-registering patients in the SMS and Cerner systems. The Patient Access Specialist will also be responsible for attempting to collect co-pays and deductibles from patient at the time of pre-registration. This position is also responsible for interpreting managed care contracts; Medicare regulations; medical and anatomy terminology and applying the knowledge to the scheduling and registration process.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Perform electronic eligibility confirmation utilizing HDX and calling insurances when necessary
  • Work with facility departments and internal departments of the CBO to investigate and resolve issues associated with patient or insurance company inquiries
  • Act as a liaison to the hospital departments in resolving issues and documenting accordingly
  • Implements and follows system downtime procedures when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
