Job Summary

In a medical setting, a patient access representative is the first point of contact for a patient. This includes registration, scheduling patients and/or pre-registration functions. Processes the necessary information for admittance and insurance billing.

Company Description

Frye Regional Medical Center, located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina, is a 355-bed acute care hospital, an 81-bed Behavioral Health facility, and hosts more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.

Essential Functions
  • Provide exemplary Customer Service
  • Assign the correct medical record number and notify HIM for any duplicate patient records
  • Schedule all appointment types, including complex ones, across all facilities with high accuracy
  • Answer incoming calls professionally and promptly
  • Review clinical documentation and submit to insurance for authorization or pre-certification on outpatient diagnostic hospital services
  • Pre-register scheduled procedures
  • Register patients by obtaining and entering accurate demographic information
  • Work with Medicaid Eligibility Staff to assist uninsured patients and provide estimates
  • Coordinate with physician office staff for pre-certification and authorization numbers
  • Follow all cash handling policies
  • Explain benefits to patients and families as needed
  • Obtain copies of insurance and photo ID cards
  • Assign insurance plans accurately
  • Scan orders into patient accounts
  • Relay information between patients, families, and staff
  • Update demographic info as needed
  • Obtain signatures for registration documents
  • Assist with checkout and pre-registration payments
  • Cross-train in registration areas
  • Assist with training new employees
  • Work on Revenue Cycle reports as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned
