About the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion:

Located in Hillcrest, the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion is a state-of-the-art, 250,000-square-foot medical facility designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of our region. Spanning six floors, this advanced facility is home to key clinical programs and offers specialized diagnostic, treatment, and surgical services. With a strong emphasis on cancer care, we are committed to delivering world-class medical services in a patient-centered environment.

These positions will all have interchangeable locations between Hillcrest, La Jolla and East Campus Medical Centers based on business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Pre-registers, pre-admits, and admits patients by telephone and/or in person under the guidance of the Access Manager.
  • Efficiently collect accurate demographic information.
  • Review and interpret complex insurance benefits.
  • Obtain prior authorizations, patient estimates, and handle cash collections.
  • Interact with public assistance programs and implement Medicare requirements.
  • Coordinate with physicians, office personnel, and hospital departments.
  • Refer cases to appropriate internal and external sources for discharge or post-hospital care.
  • Interact with hospital departments such as Utilization Review and Patient Business Services to ensure correct and timely reimbursement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least three (3) years of experience in Patient Access/Admissions/Registration or related medical front office roles, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of third-party payers and medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Professionalism, credibility, commitment to quality, innovation, and accountability.
  • Effective interaction skills with patients, visitors, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in hospital Patient Access roles.
  • UC San Diego - Extended Studies Intensive Revenue Cycle Course Certificate.
  • Experience with insurance and authorization verification.
  • Knowledge of hospital patient forms and medical terminology.
  • Experience completing birth certificates.
