Job summary

Sentara Health in Norfolk, VA seeks a Part-Time Patient Access Representative for the third shift (11pm–7:30am) in the Emergency Department to register patients, verify identity, collect documents, and explain consent forms. The role involves accurate data entry and adherence to privacy standards.

You will greet patients and families, enter demographics, handle co-pays, and assist with scheduling, pre-admission and discharge tasks while maintaining a positive first impression of Sentara.

Qualifications

• 2 years of Customer Service and/or Data Entry.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in lieu of two years of experience.
• Proficiency in Keyboarding.

Responsibilities

• Register patients by verifying identity and selecting the correct record.
• Scan insurance cards, IDs, Living Wills, and POA documents.
• Enter patient demographics and insurance information in the EHR.
• Explain and complete regulatory and compliance documents; ensure privacy and compliance standards.
• Greet patients, collect co-pays and balances; assist with scheduling, pre-admission and discharge duties.

Overview:

Part-Time, 3rd shift, 11pm to 7:30am, Emergency Department

As a Patient Access Representative with Sentara, you will be responsible for all aspects of the patient registration process, including: verifying the patient identity and selecting the correct patient record, reviewing schedules and physician orders to register the patient for the appropriate service, scanning important documents such as insurance cards, ID’s, Living Wills, and POAs and verifying and entering the patient’s demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record. During the registration process, the Patient Access Rep will explain and complete complex regulatory and compliance documents and adhere to all applicable privacy and compliance standards. They also explain and collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances and perform the transactions securely. In most areas, the Patient Access Rep is the first point of contact for patients and provides the first impression of Sentara. They greet patients and families, answer questions, and ensure the patients arrive to the appropriate service area at the right time. The Patient Access Rep may also perform scheduling, pre-admission, and discharge duties and provide supervision and patient information updates to families in waiting rooms.
