The Patient Access Representative is responsible for all aspects of the patient registration process, including verifying patient identity, selecting the correct patient record, reviewing schedules and physician orders to register patients for appropriate services, scanning important documents such as insurance cards, IDs, Living Wills, and POAs, and verifying and entering patient demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record. The role involves explaining and completing complex regulatory and compliance documents, adhering to privacy and compliance standards, collecting co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances securely, greeting patients and families, answering questions, and ensuring patients arrive at the appropriate service area on time. Additional duties may include scheduling, pre-admission, discharge duties, supervision, and providing patient information updates to families in waiting rooms. Education required is a High School Diploma or Equivalent, with Associate's or Bachelor's degree considered in lieu of two years of experience. Required experience includes 2 years in Customer Service or Data Entry and proficiency in computer keyboarding skills. Preferred knowledge includes third party payers, ICD-9/CPT coding, and medical terminology. Extensive training is provided for entry-level candidates with opportunities for advancement. Sentara CarePlex Hospital is a 224-bed acute care facility with specialized services and is a Certified Primary Stroke Center.
