MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center is seeking a Part-time Patient Access specialist to register patients, verify insurance, and collect payments. The role supports inpatient and outpatient settings with emphasis on accuracy and customer service.
Strong communication, data entry, and basic computer skills are essential. A high school diploma is required, with HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA certification encouraged within the first year.
Employment Type: Part time Shift: Day Shift Description: Position Purpose: Provides patient focused customer service. Performs outpatient & / or inpatient registration & insurance verification functions; collects patient financial liability payments & ensures that patients meet financial requirements including Medicare medical necessity, payer pre-certifications & referrals. Provides general information to hospital users, patients, families & physician offices.
Hours/Schedule: PRN
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA required within one (1) year of hire.
Experience: Minimum one (1) year customer service experience. Patient Access experience preferred.
Annual assessment of competency is completed every year. Must be able to read, write and/or speak English. Computer/PC experience/skills are required. Typing (40 words per minute) or data entry (50-60 keystrokes per minute) preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology desired. Excellent communication skills verbal & written, interpersonal skills are necessary in dealing with internal and external customers, including the ability to interpret customer requirements, recommend and take action to satisfy the customer's needs. Accuracy, attentiveness to detail and time management skills required.
