Overview

Job Summary: Professionally and courteously interview patients and/or family members to obtain accurate and complete demographic, financial, and medical information for the registration/admission process and patient identification. Verify insurance eligibility and benefits. Estimate patient responsibility, collect, and post payments. Ensure the smooth flow of patients through registration areas. Provide excellent customer service and service recovery. Demonstrate through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Accurately identify patient records using 2 patient identifiers.
  • Greet and interview patients or call and interview patients by phone to obtain all necessary insurance and demographic information.
  • Accurately enter data into the registration system, including medical, demographic, insurance, precertification, and medical necessity data.
  • Verify insurance benefits, precertification status, and medical necessity information.
  • Determine patient financial responsibility, collect, and post all applicable copays, deductibles, and co-insurance balances.
  • Assist patients in making payment arrangements when appropriate.
  • Complete all registrations and preregistrations in a timely manner.
  • Assist patients with completing all necessary admission forms.
  • Escort patients to treatment locations.
  • Perform registration duties with minimal supervision or guidance.
  • Provide coverage in other Patient Access areas as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service and service recovery when needed.
  • Attend all departmental staff meetings.
  • Successfully complete all required tests and quizzes in NetLearning.
  • Maintain knowledge of all pertinent policies and procedures.
  • Manage personal time and attendance, notifying supervisor immediately of issues.
  • Utilize AIDET and HEATT to problem-solve with patients, visitors, co-workers, and staff from other departments.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:
  • Education / Certification: High School / GED required. Post-secondary education preferred.
  • Experience: Two years customer service strongly preferred. Previous registration, scheduling, insurance, medical records, or billing experience preferred.
  • Additional Skills / Abilities: Excellent verbal and written skills required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a positive attitude. Effective time management and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred.
