Qualifications

Responsibilities

Franciscan Medical Group, as part of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, is currently seeking a full-time Patient Access Representative for the fast-paced Franciscan Foot & Ankle Clinic in Burien, WA. The position offers a supportive team environment with excellent growth opportunities. Benefits include free parking, and there are no night shifts, weekend work, or organizationally recognized holidays required.

Job Summary

This role involves performing a variety of administrative support duties related to patient intake at outpatient clinics within the Franciscan Medical Group (FMG). The incumbent interacts directly with patients at the front desk and/or over the phone to facilitate the intake process. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Checking patients in and out for care
  2. Collecting and entering demographic and financial data into the medical record
  3. Gathering and validating insurance information, scheduling appointments
  4. Collecting co-pays, co-insurance, and prior balances
  5. Processing referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications for ancillary testing or surgical procedures
  6. Working with patients and insurance carriers to ensure referral needs are met and insurance benefits are understood, especially for hardware-related items like retail contact lenses

The role requires critical thinking, excellent customer service, knowledge of insurance and billing processes, medical terminology, and confidentiality practices. The incumbent should communicate effectively, handle routine issues appropriately, and escalate problems when necessary. The position may involve front desk work or phone interactions, always aiming to deliver the highest level of patient service.

Essential Duties
  • Register and check patients in/out
  • Handle and reconcile payments
  • Monitor and resolve issues before patient visits
  • Process referral orders and pre-authorizations
  • Coordinate appointments and ancillary services
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding billing and insurance
  • Coordinate patient education activities
Qualifications

Minimum of one year of customer service experience required; two years preferred. Healthcare or call center experience is a plus.
