Job description

Responsibilities

Franciscan Medical Group, as part of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, is currently looking for a full-time Patient Access Representative for the fast-paced Franciscan Urgent Care Clinic in Burien, WA. Supportive team with excellent growth opportunities. Free parking and no nights, weekends, or organizationally recognized holidays required.

Job Summary:
This role involves performing various administrative duties related to patient intake at the Franciscan Medical Group outpatient clinics, following internal guidelines and procedures. The incumbent interacts directly with patients at the front desk and/or over the phone to:

  1. Check patients in/out for care
  2. Collect and enter demographic and financial data into medical records
  3. Gather and validate insurance information, schedule appointments
  4. Collect co-pays, co-insurance, and prior balances
  5. Obtain and process referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications for ancillary testing or surgical procedures
  6. Work with patients to fulfill referral needs and determine insurance benefit coverage for hardware-related items, collaborating directly with insurance carriers

This position requires critical thinking, attentive listening to meet patient needs with multiple options and solutions, knowledge of insurance authorization and billing, confidentiality practices, and medical terminology. Effective communication channels are essential for routine problem-solving and escalation to management. Strong customer service skills are required to provide the highest level of service consistently.

Work may involve behind-the-scenes tasks, phone interactions, or direct patient engagement at the front desk.

Essential Duties:
  • Register and/or check patients in/out
  • Handle and reconcile payments
  • Monitor and resolve issues prior to patient visits
  • Process referral orders and pre-authorizations
  • Coordinate appointments and ancillary services
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding billing and insurance
  • Coordinate patient education activities
Qualifications

Education/Work Experience: Minimum of one year of customer service experience required; two years preferred. Healthcare or call center experience is advantageous.
