Job summary

Heywood Healthcare is seeking a patient access specialist to register patients, verify insurance, secure authorizations, and support ED and scheduling staff. The role covers registration in ER, Admitting, and Scheduling, with occasional switchboard duties.

Hours are 40 per week, with day and evening shifts including every other weekend/holiday; compensation starts at $18.00 per hour. Strong communication and Meditech familiarity are desirable for this role.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks with minimal supervision is essential.
• Medical terminology, spelling competence and computer experience essential; knowledge of Meditech preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers patient accounts, insurance and ensure authorizations are valid.
• Initiates patient registration with demographics and insurance information.
• Contacts insurance companies to verify eligibility and benefits within 24 hours of admission.
• Assists ED and scheduling staff and provides coverage for switchboard operators as needed.
