Job summary

Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston is seeking a Patient Access Representative to ensure timely and accurate patient registration. You will act as liaison among patients, payers, Medical Records, PFS and care teams, verify demographics, collect out-of-pocket costs, and maximize hospital reimbursement while complying with EMTALA and Joint Commission standards.

Pre-register patients 2–10 days prior; assist with insurance benefits and referrals as needed.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma required.
• 6 months experience as an admissions representative/counselor performing all aspects of the registration process preferred.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience.

Responsibilities

• Obtains, verifies, and enters complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Searches patient accounting system for existing medical records and avoids duplicates.
• Enters accurate demographic data with correct spelling, DOB, gender, address, and guarantor details.
• Monitors assigned DARs/work queues and ensures accounts are secured for billing daily.
• Financially secures patient accounts to maximize hospital reimbursement with strong customer service.
• Verifies insurance benefits and enters payor/plan into EPIC; estimates if needed.
• Obtains insurance referrals and documents authorization requirements for billing.
• Provides patient liability estimates prior to visits with involvement from financial counseling for self-pay.
• Pre-registers patients 2–10 days before appointments; registers unscheduled patients as notified.
• Obtains clinical and financial authorization as required by contract for services.
• For inpatients, verifies inpatient benefits, notifies bed control, and starts pre-certification.
