Wilson Health is looking for a Part-time-Operator for our Patient Access Departmentlocation in Sidney, Ohio (North Dayton, Ohio) area.

Employment Status: Part-Time
Working Hours: 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM, three days per week - days will VARY per week.
Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday rotation required

SUMMARY:This position plays an important role in hospital communications by managing incoming calls, operating the switchboard, making overhead announcements, responding to emergency codes and alarms, and communicating accurately with patients, physicians, staff, and departments.TheOp-Center Technician will answer the Cisco Switchboard Console by phone or by application, overhead appropriate announcements, contact appropriate staff members and doctors and keep accurate log records which are kept neat and readable.

Key Responsibilities
Switchboard & Call Management
  • Answer and manage a high volume of internal and external calls with speed and accuracy.
  • Transfer calls to the appropriate departments, extensions, physicians, or staff.
  • Operate the Cisco switchboard console by telephone or PC application, including hold, park, transfer, and overhead paging functions.
  • Answer calls in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Effectively multitask while managing phone calls, overhead pages, emergency codes, and alarm panels.
Hospital Communications
  • Accurately send and relay messages using appropriate communication methods, including overhead paging, Outlook, text messaging, Cortex, email, and other communication systems.
  • Read and accurately maintain physician monthly call schedules and call lists.
  • Communicate important daily events and occurrences to supervisors, other shifts, and departments.
Emergency & Safety Procedures
  • Respond appropriately to hospital emergency procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Operate and respond to code panels, including CareFlight, trauma alerts, panic alarms, and other emergency notifications.
  • Accurately identify activated alarms using the Simplex Annunciator Panel.
  • Make emergency announcements in a loud, calm, clear, and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrate competency during emergency drills, including fire, disaster, active shooter, Code Adams, and other hospital emergency procedures.
  • Monitor alarm panels and respond appropriately to alerts.
Documentation & Administrative Duties
  • Maintain accurate and legible page-answer logs.
  • Type and file daily information as required.
  • Assist with maintaining current department reference materials, including:
    • Code information
    • Phone directories
    • Fax sheets
    • Physician information
    • Call lists and manuals
    • Policy and procedure documents
Computer & Equipment Operations
  • Operate computers and peripheral equipment necessary to perform daily responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate basic computer skills, including opening, processing, executing, and exiting required software.
  • Learn and adapt to new computer systems, paging devices, alarms, and other equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow computer and equipment commands, including pressing buttons, flipping switches, loading paper, and other routine functions.
  • Learn and demonstrate new procedures within approximately seven working days.
Professionalism & Confidentiality
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patients and hospital information both on and off the job.
  • Demonstrate professional and courteous telephone etiquette with all callers.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with physicians, hospital staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Attend department meetings as scheduled.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience operating a multi-line telephone system or switchboard is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and operate multiple computer, telephone, paging, and communication systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and courteously with patients, visitors, physicians, employees, and other callers.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional during emergency situations or periods of high activity.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when receiving, documenting, and relaying information.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow established hospital policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and protect patient and hospital information.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new equipment, technology, procedures, and communication systems.
  • Must be able to accurately read and interpret physician call schedules, department information, code procedures, and other written materials.
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to respond appropriately when handling urgent or emergency communications.
  • Must be able to successfully complete required training and demonstrate competency in hospital emergency procedures and communication system
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital, healthcare, customer service, call center, switchboard, receptionist, or administrative setting is preferred.
  • Previous experience operating a multi-line telephone system, switchboard, or computer-based communication system is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and use multiple computer and communication systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and courteous when handling high call volumes, emergencies, and stressful situations.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities while maintaining accuracy.
