Job Description
  • Job Summary: Provides day-to-day support to Patient Access Representatives, acts as a subject matter and technical expert, and ensures a positive patient experience. Demonstrates effective communication and customer service skills when interacting with staff, patients, families, and leadership. Trains and educates staff on entering complete and accurate orders, demographic and insurance information, including authorizations, referrals, and medical necessity. Ensures staff compliance with departmental and institutional protocols, including communicating and collecting out-of-pocket liability from patients.
  • Essential Functions:
    1. Interact professionally with co-workers, visitors, and staff, embodying the values of Jefferson.
    2. Ensure timely, efficient, and accurate registration processes; stay current on insurance tip sheets and workflow updates.
    3. Meet regulatory and compliance requirements, adhering to departmental and institutional protocols.
    4. Distribute work assignments daily.
    5. Perform quality assurance on registrations, provide feedback, and coach staff for performance improvement.
    6. Backfill for staff during meal breaks and cover scheduled or unscheduled absences as needed.
    7. Maintain a professional demeanor with patients, families, coworkers, clinical staff, and leadership, fostering positive interactions.
    8. Train new hires on recording orders, demographic and insurance info, and provide real-time coaching on workflow changes or errors.
    9. Achieve individual and team performance metrics.
    10. Interact with a diverse patient base, ensuring departmental standards for wait times are met.
    11. Rotate assignments across all points of service within Patient Access.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of patient registration, third-party insurance coverage, benefits, authorizations/referrals, and coverage requirements. Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office, and familiar with healthcare EHR applications such as EPIC and Cerner.
  • Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. At least 3 years of patient registration experience required.
  • Additional Skills: Ability to provide feedback and coaching, strong communication and customer service skills.
